Cambodian Actress Banned For A Year For Being ‘Too Sexy’
Cambodia has banned an actress from working in any movie for one year because of her sexy looks. The Culture and Fine Arts Ministry has said that the has debased the code of conduct of their country and hence wants some re-education.
Denny Kwan is a Cambodian actress who has been banned from appearing in any movies for one year. The Culture and Fine Arts Ministry of Cambodia have gone to the extent of informing media houses about the choice and asking them not to hire her.
Even as the actor has accepted her punishment, she thinks that there are many actors in the country who look more sexier than her and have done erotic roles that she can never do. She said, ‘In Cambodia, there are many sexy artists. Some are even more than me when shooting, featuring kissing and being erotic,’ she said.
‘I know it’s my right to dress how I want, but our culture, Cambodian people, cannot accept it,’ she told the Phnom Penh Post. ‘I will now try not to be sexy as I usually am when I post on Facebook.’
Banning someone for her dressing sense is unfair at many levels
This dictate has angered many activists in the country who reckon that this is unfair to the women and their freedom. Many organistions like Gender and Development Cambodia have spoken up on the issue and called this ban a violation of UN’s Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.
Culture and Fine Arts Ministry have claimed that they are right in punishing Ms. Kwan because she has broken a on paper promise she gave to the ministry last year. In it, she had promised that she won’t dress up in a sexy manner.
Wow, there’s a on paper promise too! Where is this going? What happened to live and let live? This certainly sounds like a school or a prison.
